Our Methodology

This page explains how we source, verify, and maintain the accuracy of every piece of information on GetBenefits.tools. We believe transparency about our process is part of what makes our content trustworthy in a YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) category that matters to people's financial stability and access to essential services.

Primary data sources

All numerical values — income limits, maximum benefit amounts, deductions, tax credit values, federal poverty levels — come exclusively from official US federal and state government agencies. We do not use secondary sources for primary data claims.

Verification schedule

Federal benefits values change on predictable schedules. We update our centralized data file at fixed times each year:

Each page displays a verification banner showing the date of last verification and the source. If you see information that appears to be outdated, please report it.

Quality controls

Before any numerical change is published:

  1. The value is verified against the primary source (linked above).
  2. The value is cross-checked against at least one established secondary source (CBPP, KFF, NerdWallet, etc.) to confirm we have interpreted the official source correctly.
  3. For complex calculations (such as SNAP benefit amounts), our calculator output is cross-checked against the example calculations published in the official agency methodology documents.
  4. The update is logged in our internal change log with date, source, and reason.

Corrections policy

If you find an error on our site:

  1. Please contact us with the page URL, the error, and ideally a link to the correct official source.
  2. We aim to respond within five business days.
  3. If verified, we will update the page immediately, log the correction in our change history, and note the change at the bottom of the affected page.

Our use of AI tools

We use AI assistants as research aids for tasks like organizing information, drafting initial copy, and cross-checking calculation logic. We do not publish AI-generated content without human review. Every claim about benefits eligibility, every numerical value, and every recommendation goes through human verification against official sources before publication.

This approach is consistent with Google's guidance on AI-generated content, which prioritizes the quality and accuracy of content over the method of production.
